The Parker is classical! The razor is entirely metal, a designed actual brass frame with nickel/chrome finishing. Weight:
This razor is very solid and has good weight distribution, something you want in a safety razor since you use the weight of the razor resting against your skin to move the blade around as opposed to pressing down as most modern shavers are used to doing. Secondly, this Parker's handle weighs more. It is heavier than the 22R of years past also. Candidly, I'm not quite sure why Parker doesn't advertise all these alterations they've made. They've got to be proud. The Parker of today is not exactly the same razor as the Parker of years ago -- it is a much improved adaptation. Moreover, the butterfly hatchway blade holder makes changing blades uncomplicated.
Cost/Value:
If you're not 100% assured that going "old school" is for you, then the absurd price of cartridge refill costs and nasty burns should win you over. Bottom line is that this is a quality product at a competitive price. Why have so many deserted traditional shaving in favor of the low grade and super expensive multi blade cartridges? Nothing matches the shave with this razor than, a decent shaving soap, a badger brush, and a fine aftershave. You don't know what you are missing! While you may not consider yourself as cheap, why spend an arm and a leg, forty or fifty bucks for a bunch of blades. The blades included are even numbered on each side, one through four so that they can be turned over for additional uses. Each blade might carry on about 7-8 shaves even on stiff beards and without looking just like you have some 5 o'clock shadow till way after 5pm!
Design:
The door alignment, razor blade alignment, blade exposure and blade angle are top notch with this model. You'll be delightfully aghast with the fundamental improvements. The razor has a beautiful design, is fairly heavy and the shave is extremely close. You will enjoy it's butterfly creation, simply turn the handle and expend in the new blade. It is a good, solid feeling razor and it looks very sharp. The black chrome finish is very nice and long-wearing, a real keeper!
Quality:
Good craftsmanship, a very solid razor that no doubt will last many, many years. The twist to open mechanism which makes blade changing fast and safe. This razor is built the same as those razors years ago, with a nice weight to it and easy butterfly action. If you are looking to convert to the "old school" style of wet shaving this is an excellent safety razor to use, especially when used in addition to a quality shave soap. This is a great razor. First-class quality, fit and finish, easy to interchange blades works well and NEVER clogs, which was ever a problem with the new multi blades. This is an superior calibre product that ought to last the rest of your life, its a delight to shave with and gives a first-rate shave, superior to any multi blade, and with less skin irritation.
At the end of the day, the Parker is well made. It even rivals the Gillette razors of the 1950's, especially since Parker re-designed the head in the spring of 09. If you are searching to make the swap this razor, a brush, and a mug full of old time shaving soap to get you going is highly recommended. You'll never look back again.
